How KCA support Early Years
KCA works with Early Years practitioners to embed relational and trauma-informed practice at the heart of provision. We:
- Align with the EYFS – showing how relational and trauma-informed principles connect directly with Early Years Foundation Stage themes.
- Apply practical models – using Five to Thrive, Mending Hurts, and Creating Connections as simple, repeatable frameworks that can be built into daily routines.
- Strengthen partnerships with parents and caregivers – equipping practitioners to share learning on responsive parenting, bonding, brain development, and co-regulation.
- Promote trust and wellbeing – helping staff create relationships of trust where caregivers feel confident seeking support and embedding strategies that sustain the wellbeing of both children and practitioners.
Our approach ensures that relational practice is not an add-on, but a foundation for healthy development, resilience, and learning in the earliest years.

Case studies & examples
Case Study for Coventry Council
Coventry City Council commissioned KCA to embed Five to Thrive across early years and family services, aiming to strengthen responsive parenting and build a consistent approach across the city. Through blended training, e-learning, and a Train the Trainer model, practitioners from perinatal, health visiting, early years, and family hubs developed shared skills in co-regulation, attachment, and resilience. Over 391 practitioners have taken part so far, with 100% reporting increased confidence in supporting parents and using a common language and approach to explain brain development and the impact of attuned responsive care. 100% of parents say they feel more confident about how to support their baby’s brain development and emotional health following attendance at the five to thrive baby programme delivered by trained practitioners.
We know that every organisation starts in a different place. For some, a single, focused training session makes the biggest difference. For others, the most impact comes from a longer learning journey that embeds new approaches into everyday practice. KCA provides both, always tailored to your context.

An example of a learning journey in Early Years
We know that every organisation starts in a different place. For some, a single, focused training session makes the biggest difference. For others, the most impact comes from a longer learning journey that embeds new approaches into everyday practice. KCA provides both, always tailored to your context.
Phase 1: Building Awareness
Outcome: Practitioners gain a shared language and approach for explaining how everyday interactions build resilience and self-regulation.

Phase 2: Embedding Practice
Outcome: Staff confidence grows in supporting parents and noticing opportunities for mindful awareness (noticing), co-regulation and responsive care in everyday routines.

Phase 4: Embedding and Sustaining Change
Outcome: A network of local trainers builds capacity, creating consistency in relationship-centred practice.

Phase 3: Developing Capacity
Long-Term Outcome: Parents are better supported to provide attuned, respon
sive care, staff resilience is strengthened, and a consistent, relational and trauma-informed culture is embedded across Early Years provision.
