What sort of training is it?

This course is for professionals in leadership, HR, inclusion, workforce development, and frontline roles. Using the Five to Thrive model, participants explore the science of workplace relationships and gain practical tools to strengthen connection, manage stress, and build cohesive, resilient teams that thrive under pressure.

The course aligns with the Civil Service Success Profiles—Communicating and Influencing, Working Together, and Developing Self and Others—and is available in flexible formats, from full-day workshops to short webinars, to suit a range of professional needs.

What will I learn?

Strong working relationships are the cornerstone of effective teams, fostering creativity, collaboration, and psychological safety. In high-pressure environments, however, relational challenges can lead to stress, disengagement, and burnout. Five to Thrive: The Science of Effective Workplace Relationships equips professionals with the tools to strengthen human connection and enhance workplace resilience.

Grounded in the Five to Thrive model, this course integrates evidence from attachment theory, interpersonal neurobiology, and trauma-informed practice. Participants will explore five essential activities for connected relationships—respond, engage, relax, play, and talk—understanding how these build trust, belonging, and team cohesion. Practical scenarios demonstrate how to apply these concepts in everyday leadership, collaboration, and communication.

Through a blend of theory, peer learning, and structured reflection, the course provides space to reconnect with relational public service and develop strategies to manage stress and co-regulation. Participants will leave with clear, science-informed approaches to foster healthier, more effective relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and communities.

It was phenomenal, I have come away with alot to think about to continue with my career.

It will help me both personally and in my practice. I feel more confident in my knowledge when speaking with staff in school and now feel I have practical strategy that I can share. It has also made me reflect on where people might be on the compassionate reason grid and on my parenting at home and making sure we follow the five to thrive model!
