KCA works with schools and trusts to embed attachment-aware and trauma-informed practice that makes a measurable difference to culture, relationships, and outcomes. We:

  • Translate science into practice – turning evidence on attachment, trauma, and resilience into practical learning tailored to your school context.
  • Make belonging visible – equipping staff with strategies that embed safety and connection in everyday routines, language, and boundaries.
  • Strengthen regulation and co-regulation – building adult self-regulation so staff can stay calm and consistent, and teaching co-regulation strategies that help pupils manage emotions.
  • Embed proven models – such as Five to Thrive, providing a common and consistent language and approach across staff teams.
  • Apply methods that work – drawing on research that shows leadership buy-in, restorative responses, reflective spaces, and relationship-focused practice create calmer classrooms, stronger trust, and more inclusive cultures.
  • Support sustainable change – through whole-school training, staff coaching, and implementation support aligned to your data and priorities.

Our programmes help schools move beyond managing behaviour to creating cultures of belonging where both staff and pupils can thrive.

Case Study: Trauma Informed Practice in Schools
KCA, in partnership with Warren Larkin Associates, is working with 26 schools to embed trauma-informed practice, supported by evaluation from the Anna Freud Centre and UCL. Staff are developing the skills to understand trauma, use relational approaches, and build resilience across whole-school systems. The programme aims to reduce exclusions, improve attendance, and strengthen teacher–pupil relationships – creating school communities where recovery and learning go hand in hand.

Case Study: Medway Trauma Informed Schools Programme
Between April 2023 and December 2024, Medway Council partnered with KCA to launch the Trauma Informed Schools (TIS) programme, engaging 69 schools to build staff capacity in understanding trauma, using relational approaches, and supporting inclusion. Whole-school training, leadership workshops, and collaborative enquiry highlighted gaps in staff knowledge and created a shared framework for trauma-informed practice. Since launch, 100% of schools recommended the training, with staff reporting greater confidence and commitment to fostering inclusive communities. Medway’s attendance rate has risen to 93%, persistent absence has fallen from 22.4% to 20.9%, and Progress 8 scores improved by 36%, narrowing the gap with national averages – laying strong foundations for reducing exclusions and improving outcomes.

We know that every organisation starts in a different place. For some, a single, focused training session makes the biggest difference. For others, the most impact comes from a longer learning journey that embeds new approaches into everyday practice. KCA provides both, always tailored to your context.

We know that every organisation starts in a different place. For some, a single, focused training session makes the biggest difference. For others, the most impact comes from a longer learning journey that embeds new approaches into everyday practice. KCA provides both, always tailored to your context.

Step 1: Understand your starting point

We begin with a collaborative enquiry or audit to understand your current strengths, culture, and areas for growth. This ensures any programme is tailored to your real context.

Step 2: Build leadership capacity

Through consultancy and workshops, we work with senior leaders to align policy, culture, and everyday practice with trauma-informed and relational approaches.

Step 3: Whole-team learning

Staff access training on attachment, trauma, resilience, and practical models like Five to Thrive and Mending Hurts. Learning is supported with toolkits, case studies, and resources.

Step 5: Sustain and measure impact

We guide teams through self-evaluation and outcome frameworks to track progress, celebrate impact, and plan for long-term sustainability.

Step 4: Embed practice

We provide coaching, reflective spaces, and peer learning opportunities to help staff translate training into consistent daily practice.
